Political violence is not acceptable. We do not hold the moral right to determine who deserves to live or die. Celebration is not due. Kirk should still be alive and should still be going on his tours with Turning Point USA.

With that being said, Charlie Kirk was not a good man. His death should not put a halo over his legacy. His ideology was detrimental to many groups of people. Whether it was lying about the death of George Floyd, telling women their role in life was to get married and have “lots of kids,” or smothering the validity of higher education, Kirk lived a political career of lies and hypocrisy.

Kirk spread the false idea that George Floyd died of a drug overdose. This was not true, and multiple autopsies revealed Floyd’s death was homicide through asphyxiation. Kirk even called for the release of Floyd’s killer. The narrative was not only racist, but dehumanized Floyd, and justified his killing. Yes, Kirk is a husband and a father, but so was Floyd. Kirk disrespected a dead man to spark culture wars and bring attention to himself. Why is he deserving of thoughts and prayers while at the same time he was allowed to defame a dead man?

Kirk has also spread a harmful and oppressive narrative that we need to return to more traditional roles for women. His belief is not that women are strong enough to have their own career and life. He says that leads to women being “unhappy.” Instead, he thinks they need to marry young and have a lot of kids, and then raise those kids. The ideology leads to economic oppression of women, undermines their competence in an intellectual world, and leads to a patriarchal-dominated society.

He boasts of his “Christian values” and loving Jesus and the Bible. Yet, he lived a hypocritical political career. He voted for and endorsed a man who is a known liar, who cheated on all three of his wives, who had kids with all three women. He endorsed a man who has led to the greatest wealth shift in history toward the rich. Kirk lied about Israel and ignored the decades of oppressive policy Israel pushed.

Kirk pushed the narrative that schools indoctrinate kids, that college is a scam, that it is useless, despite education being the best way to get out of poverty. He lied about his religious views. He lied about the kids starving in Gaza. He lied about wanting what’s best for women. He lied about the war in Ukraine. He lied about Floyd. He lied about immigrants. He lied about needing more people in jail. He lied about gun laws. He lied about wanting the Epstein files released. He lied about the groups of people he negatively affected. He lied. He said some people needed to be sacrificed to protect our Second Amendment. Guess he just did not think it would be him.

Charlie Kirk’s death shows the political instability of America, and is in itself unacceptable. But do not glorify a person because of how they died. He was not a good man, and his death does not change that.
