Did you know that, if California were a country, it would have the 4th largest economy in the world? But California is not a country; it is a state here in America and is entitled to receive such benefits. Isn’t that a Republican value? More states’ rights and a smaller national government. Isn’t that why women lost their protected right to choose what goes on in their own bodies? Isn’t that why so many government entities have lost their funding, even though they benefit the American people? Isn’t that why DOGE came into existence, and so many government employees were fired? Because the government was too big?
But the reality of Trump’s small government is so much more complex than it superficially appears to be. Trump never cared about government size or spending. Donald put us in twice as much debt during his 2016 term than Biden did during his 2020 term. And currently, Trump’s “big beautiful bill” is estimated to raise the debt by 2.1 trillion over the next decade. Despite all this debt, Trump has still pulled funding for cancer research, healthcare, and education. Trump has defunded our support for Ukraine, defunded the Department of Education, pulled us out of the World Health Organization, pulled us out of the Paris Green deal, yet somehow we still see ourselves in more debt than we did under Biden.
The reality is Trump is not pro-small government, just anti-Democrat and pro-himself. That is why he makes enemies out of anyone who disagrees with him. Sending troops to California is costing American taxpayers $153 million, just so he can gather up alleged illegal immigrants and deny them their rights of due process guaranteed in the American Constitution. That is not the American way nor constitutional, and it is proof that all Trump cares for is forcing his will upon people who do not agree with him.
Gavin Newsom, the governor of California, has threatened to stop paying federal taxes. California itself is a donor state, giving $80 billion more in federal taxes than it receives. Still, Donald called for the arrest of Newsom, making him the first sitting president to call for the arrest of a governor. With all the debt and all the talk of cutting government size, wouldn’t Donald care about the country losing $80 billion in funding? He doesn’t though, because all Donald cares about is forcing his will.
The troops being deployed in Los Angeles are not there to create peace but to insinuate chaos in the name of Donald Trump, to distract us from the fact that Donald has put us in trillions of dollars more debt, that he is cutting essential humanitarian needs. Donald has never been pro-America, only pro-himself, and now it is evident he is not acting out the will of the American people but the will of a wannabe dictator.
